Paper Basket|Happy Mail and Gift Idea

Good morning!

Today I will be sharing with you this quick and easy way of creating paper baskets! No svg files or templates required for this one. This particular project was inspired by a blog post from Merriment Designs from 2014. I adjusted measurements so everything is in inches, and also made the trimming and cutting process a bit easier.

First you will need a 10x12 piece of cardstock.  Can be patterned or solid colored. I went for patterned to cut the middle man.
You want to score at 4 and 8. Rotate and score again at 4 and 8. You can also score at 3 and 7, depends on how big and wide you want the overall basket to look

On the 12 inch sides of your paper, you want to score at 1,2,3 and 9, 10, 11, drawing the line up to the main score lines you did (4,8). These inch strips will only be on the four corners of your paper.
Cut each scored line, only going up to the 4,8 score line. No more, no less. This will give you flaps or strips that you will use to create the overall look of the base.

For this next portion you will need a ruler and pencil.  On the 12 inch side, make a pencil mark on the 6 inch mark (on both 12 inch sides). With the ruler, draw a diagonal line from the 6 inch mark up to the scored line. Do this on both pencil marks.
Using scissors, cut along the drawn line, until you end up with an upside down triangle.

Glue each strip together, grabbingnone from opposite sides,  and adhering in a criss cross motion.
Once the overall case is complete, grab a strip of paper half inch in width by 12 inches long.

Using a 1.5 or 2 inch circle punch, punch two circles out of any cardstock. Fold those circles in half to get a even center line you can follow.
With a craft knife, cut a slit a long that center line, long enough to fit your strip of paper.
Now you can create the handle for the basket, by threading the strip through the circle and glueing all pieces to your base on opposite sides.

Add a bow, ribbon, flowers or any other embellishment to finish the look!
